Reacting to an Aggressive Dog

There are several ways to react to an aggressive dog such as run, defend, make calming signals, pulling on the lead.

The first thing is to establish the various situations where we can meet face to react to an aggressive dog, you first that we are not dog owners or not we deal with this animal, on the other hand, can be the aggressive dog is finally ours and our dog has quereaccionar with an aggressive dog.

Responding to an aggressive dog

In this case there are several options that could occur:

Running away: this is one of the most common mistakes in reacting to an aggressive dog because doing so will stimulate the dog’s prey drive, making it even more aggressive. Remaining calm would be the better approach.

Moving towards an aggressive dog: a case similar to the above, it is important to remain calm and avoid direct confrontation, both regarded as gestures.

Responding to an aggressive dog through petting or touching:
Many people have a habit of petting dogs without knowing the state outside of it, it must be remembered that we should never touch an animal that we might not know, they might bite out of fear or dominance. These are warning signs and things to be avoided so as not to react to an aggressive dog.
Staring at the dog directly: This means a direct challenge for the dogs to fight the challenger.

Fighting the dog: This is quite normal to put your hands in a fight, trying to rescue our dog from a perpetrator. Thus, it is possible that even our own dog to bite us. There are several ways to react to an aggressive dog, they can be separated by water, a stick or the strap itself and that the owner of another dog to help separate them equally.

Tightening the belt when our dog is showing aggressive behaviour:
By retaining the dog with the intent to control him, further spike and provoke your pet dog's aggression.

If your pet is very aggressive, it's not a good practice trying to calm her through continuous caressing, because through this action we are actually signaling to the dog that it's an acceptable behaviour and encouraging the aggressive behaviour in the future.

Here's a handy guide on training your dog and other tips which I came across which might be helpful.
